Cypress Genus Details

Cypress trees are grown only in the warmer parts of the world. It is a cold sensitive plant and can not survive past gardening Zone 7 (where the coldest temperatures are from 0 to 10 degrees F). Many species are native however, others have been brought in from Europe and Western Asia. They are evergreen trees with opposite, flattened, scale-like leaves. "Pine" cones are small, and 1inch long. Height varies with variety but ranges from 35-70 feet tall. In California, cypress are commonly grown in sea-side gardens, as they are tolerent of sea spray.

The trees will shed profuse amounts of pollen 6-7 months of the year. Reactions are often severe.
Cypress Pollen Description

Grains are usually spheroidal with a thin exine. The grains are 1-aperturate with a faint circular pore. The pollen grains are uniform within the family and different genera are difficult to distinguish.
Grains are 25-36 micrometers in diameter.
